Conley Trade Rumors Heating Up E-mail

As first reported in the Commercial Appeal, it appears that the Grizzlies are (and to some extent, have been) shopping #4 pick Mike Conley, with the primary rumored deal sending him to the Milwaukee Bucks for '08 #8 pick Joe Alexander and young point guard Ramon Sessions, with a future pick possibly being included from MEM to MIL (Lakers' 2010 first rounder?).

As of this morning, according to an article in the Racine, WI Times-Journal, the two teams have essentially agreed on the deal, with Bucks owner Herb Kohl's approval being the only remaining hurdle to clear.

Sessions will be a restricted free agent this summer, meaning, of course, that the team for whom he's playing this season will have the right to match any offer he receives. Evidently, MIL does not want to pay what they believe will be his fair market value-they have two MAJOR dollar earners on the books in Richard Jefferson and deadeye shooter Michael Redd, and Dirty Bogut's rather humongous extension will kick in next season also.

Joe Alexander has struggled to get his shoes on the hardwood this season-whether this is due to lackadaisical practice effort (doubtful), Scott Skiles' love of vets (much more likely), or typical rookie struggles (almost certainly, at least in part), who can say for certain. His athletic ability is unquestioned-but as we all know, that actually counts little (see also: Stromile Swift). The acquisition of Alexander could very well spell out the future of Hakim Warrick, and it might spell "playing for another team next season". It could also affect the team's outlook on the much-ballyhooed (and, by Blazers fans, boo-hooed) return to play of Darius Miles, as Alexander's position is in that nether region between the digits "3" and "4". His nickname, however, is one of the coolest in NBA history: Vanilla Sky.

Now, on to Mike Conley. Insane leaper, dribbling wizard, who likes to dribble, and dribble, and dribble. Quick hands, improving outside shot, confidence level flatlining...there will invariably be many a Grizzlies fan who will say that trading Conley will lead the team to regret sending off the "next Tony Parker" for "peanuts"..but there will be many who will be excited to have a PG over 6'.

Will it happen? Time will tell, but the magic 8-ball says that the Grizzlies might have two participants in the dunk contest if Vanilla Sky gets voted in...or they might not...

There is a rumor spreading around that Milwaukee is getting cold feet on this deal. Don't be surprised if it falls apart.
